We choose Goorambat as a name for our kennels because it is an aboriginal word meaning “A Hunting Ground”, although another authority puts the meaning as nonsense or frivolity. Both meanings are appropriate. |

In the very beginning, David bought a Golden Retriever puppy from John Lawton of Ferntip Kennels for Kerryn’s birthday. He was named Joshua. His name had to start with the letter “J” the same as Jason, a dog owned by Kerryn’s sister, Cheryl Gibson, to keep his memory in our minds.
This puppy named Joshua, Ferntip Golden Blaze UD, was our first boy and went on to get his Companion Dog title (CD), Companion Dog Excellent title (CDX) and then Utility Dog title (UD).
Crystal, Fernfall OnGolden Pond CDX ETwas the next to arrive, from Jane Fall at Fernfall Kennels. The litter was from Holly, Fernfall Sun Dancer, who was feartured on Channel 10’s Neighbours and Nicholas, Ch Goldog Alpine Nicholas. Cheryl Gibson also took one of the litter sisters, April, Fernfall Stand By Me CDX.
Crystal and David ran 20 kms to earn Crystal her Endurance Test Title. She has also gained her CD and CDX title.
The next Golden to stay with us was Chloe, Goorambat Island Girl CDX ET, the first puppy born to Crystal and Joshua. Her kennel name was after Elton John song ‘Island Girl’ Chloe has earned her CD and CDX and her ET. She is currently working on a UD title.
And so Goorambat Kennels officially started.
Piper, Goorambat Mikasa CDX ET, was from our third litter. Piper quickly picked up everything and she was trained from the start with positive training. She gained her CD title in four trials and quickly went into the Open ring and obtained her CDX title at Warnambool in March 2004. Piper is also training for tracking. She gained her Tracking Qualification Test (TQT) in April at the German Shepherd trial .
Daniel, Goorambat Awatere CDX is our latest puppy and was named after the Elton John song, ’Daniel’. His mother Chantelle, Goorambat Tiny Dancer was also named after Elton John’s songs ‘Tiny Dancer’ so it was only fitting that he be named that way.
He has gained his CD and CDX and is now training for UD.
Nathan, Goorambat Cut N Paste was our little guy who came to us from Chantelle’s first litter, but was taken from us very suddenly at 18 months old from unknown causes. He was Daniel’s big brother. Hence his name, Daniel my brother, as from the Elton John’s song.
We now have a new puppy, Avalon, Goorambat Belle Starr born on 28th November 2005. You can expect to see her in the obedience ring soon. She has done us proud Avalon has gained tracking dog of the year in 2007. She is now going to have a litter of pups this year. We are so proud of her. |
